Education Africa was recently featured in a three-part series on CNN’s Inside Africa programme. The series focused on marimbas, a signature instrument in South Africa and a key component of the Education Africa International Arts & Culture Project.
Education Africa uses music education to engage young people and hosts the largest Marimba & Steelpan festival in the world each year. Just this July, there were 1600 participants in the festival’s competition, and thousands more attended to learn how to play local instruments, shop in the artisan market and eat delicious food. This year the festival was a continuation of the Africa Month initiative, which looks at promoting social cohesion not only amongst South Africans but Africa as a continent and the world at large.
